Recap of 2009
The Abilities Centre participated in the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon for the first time in 2008. We were thrilled to once again assemble a very committed group of 13 runners/walkers for our second year who were led by team co-captains, Andy Ayotte and Laura Elliott. All of these participants not only trained intensely for the event but were also able to raise the incredible amount of $23,000. All of the money raised will be used to fund equipment in the Life Skills area at the Abilities Centre. In addition, the Abilities Centre placed 3rd out of 99 charities in the Pledge Dollars Raised Per Participant category. This is the second year the team has won additional funds and as a result the Abilities Centre will receive an additional $2,000 making the total raised $25,000. The grand total of funds raised from this event in support of the Abilities Centre for the past 2 years is well over $50,000.
Recap of 2008
2008 was the first year the Abilities Centre had participated in this event. We were thrilled to assemble a very committed group of 13 runners in our inaugural year. This dedicated group of runners led by Andy Ayotte and Laura Elliott trained diligently for the event and raised the incredible amount of $29,241.00. Thanks to all of these participants for their commitment to the Abilities Centre and to this event in particular. All of the money raised will be used to fund equipment in the much needed Life Skills area at the Abilities Centre.
In addition, the Abilities Centre won 3rd place out of 64 charities in the Pledge Dollars Raised Per Participant category. This is outstanding for our first year. An additional $2,000 will be given to the Abilities Centre for this achievement. As such, the STWM team was able to raise over $31,000 for the Abilities Centre. Way to go team!
