Important Facility Notice: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

Dear friends:

Over the last few weeks, we have been closely monitoring the evolving situation with the COVID-19 outbreak to ensure we are taking every precaution to ensure the health and safety of our Abilities Centre community.

We understand and appreciate that many of our members and visitors may be experiencing some anxiety about this illness. It is important to note that Public Health continues to assure us that the risk of becoming ill from COVID-19 remains low in Ontario. We are working in cooperation with local health units and our partners as we continue to follow the situation closely.

At this juncture, we are asking that all visitors to Abilities Centre follow these everyday steps as recommended by local health authorities to reduce exposure to the virus and protect their health:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer

  • Sneeze and cough into a tissue or your sleeve

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth

  • Avoid contact with people who are sick

  • Stay home if you are sick

In addition to these measures, Abilities Centre has also:

  • Increased signage and information posted throughout the Centre

  • Increased frequency in cleaning and disinfecting of surfaces & equipment

  • Increased communication with partners and other facilities to determine and discuss emerging best practices

  • Health officials continue to maintain that proper hand washing is the key to prevention of illness, and we encourage members and visitors to utilize the twelve accessible washrooms on site. Abilities Centre also provides hand sanitizers in high volume areas including the front desk, HUR weight room and field house

We also encourage members and visitors to visit the Durham Region Health Department website where you will find regular community updates on COVID-19. The website can be found here: https://www.durham.ca/en/health-and-wellness/health-and-wellness.aspx The health and safety of members, visitors, employees and the public at large is our highest priority. We will continue to monitor this situation and advise you of any announcements. At this time, there are no changes to Abilities Centre’s daily operations and programming, and if there are any changes, we will notify members and visitors immediately via email, our website, and through our social media channels. Thank you for your support and understanding during this time.
