Project SEARCH Durham Region is a 10-month transition-to-work internship program for high school students with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities who are in their final year of school. Project SEARCH Durham Region is a partnership between the Abilities Centre, Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) and the Regional Municipality of Durham.
The program helps students develop transferable and marketable skills required for entry-level employment through a combination of classroom instruction and full immersion within various Durham Region municipal departments. A dedicated on-site team, including a DCDSB Teacher and Abilities Centre Skills Trainers, will support students in developing pre-employment skills and gaining hands-on work experience.

Throughout the program, the Abilities Centre’s Employment Team will meet with the students to stay up-to-date on their career goals and ensure they are building the necessary skills for employment. The team will also provide job development support after completion of the program to ensure the students find, secure and retain competitive and meaningful employment.

The first cohort of selected interns will begin the program in September 2023. For further information about Project SEARCH Durham Region, including eligibility and registration for September 2024, please visit:
